Stephen J. Wallace PE, CSP

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stephen J. Wallace is the Director of Environment, Safety, and Health at the headquarters of the Department of the Treasury. His staff is responsible for maintaining Treasury Directives and coordinating internal activities to comply with safety, health, environmental, and energy requirements. Before coming to Treasury, he held a number of positions in the public and private sectors, including production and process safety manager in the chemical industry. He managed Safety, Health, and Environmental programs at two OSHA VPP facilities. He was also a lead investigator with the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, where he led various investigations and studies of industrial accidents. He has presented at numerous conferences and has written several journal articles on health, safety, and environmental compliance issues. He also wrote the Best Practices for Risk Assessment and Hazard Control section in the recently published Safety Professional’s Handbook. Mr. Wallace has been in the field of risk assessment and safety analysis for nearly 20 years, and was previously an incident commander in the chemical industry and a lead investigator with the US Chemical Safety Board. In this presentation, he will discuss techniques for conducting investigations and determining root causes to prevent future accidents. He will also share lessons learned from some of the many investigations he has conducted.
He is a degreed Chemical Engineer, Certified Safety Professional, and Professional Engineer registered in multiple states.
